Ethiopia is at its best between October and March. December is particularly appealing for exploring the dramatic South Omo Valley and the otherworldly Danakil Depression, where lower temperatures make travel more comfortable.

Wildlife enthusiasts will appreciate Ethiopia’s remarkable endemism, with species such as the Ethiopian wolf, gelada monkeys and walia ibex, alongside a host of unique birdlife including the blue-winged goose and Abyssinian catbird.

Across much of southern Africa, the bushveld is greening but not yet at peak density, creating a transitional safari experience. Wildlife viewing can be variable depending on rainfall patterns, but the landscapes are beautiful, and birdlife is prolific.
